Robins nest
« on: May 15, 2010, 13:26 »
Thought I would share, I've just been out into our garage to get something and a robin flew out between hubby's car stuff, Had a closer look and we have a robins nest. Couldnt see too clearly but there is atleast 1 egg in it  :D :D Will keep my eye on it and post pics if they hatch (unless you all want pics before )

We have a robin's nest in our garden, not an exotic location though, a nest box behind an acer.

Two, maybe three babies.

I went for a wander round the overgrown side of our allotment site yesterday evening and saw a pair of robins doing their ritual mating dance with one another. I think it was one of the most captivating things I've ever seen :)

With the weather being so wonderful today and our day off, we spent the day in the garden. The parent robins are working really hard and feeding every few minutes. Those chicks don't half make a lot of noise. The parent robins take no notice of the two dogs but don't much like these human things hanging about!

We are struggling to get photos as we have to scramble throu a large Acer which brings us too close and makes the babies squat down. However you can see that they have lost their downy heads and are starting to grow feathers. Will try for better pics.

Well, the chicks fledged yesterday and are now trying to gain control of their limbs. Two have landed in the kitchen, luckily the dogs didn't notice! Our pup, Bella finds the youngsters fascinating...they jump if prodded.....where did they come from? Will they play with me? Hopefully we won't get on to ...do they taste nice? She is confused as to why the red-breasted birds that have been quite friendly have now started hassling her.

Bella is now banished from that part of the garden till they can fly properly. OH wants to know why she wasn't banished when she was digging blinking great holes in the lawn.
