Best place to buy plants/plugs
« on: January 08, 2015, 08:20 »
Hi, I usually grow from scratch but this year due to a huge project at work and loads of weddings I'm not going to be able to. Where do you think is the best place to buy plants/plugs from? Thanks!! Anna

Have a look at those in your local garden centre; but don't be mislead into buying them at the wrong time, just because they are being sold then.

I find that p&p charges often make the cost of buying through the post prohibitive really, unless you are buying  a lot from one provider.

Often there are special offers -- for example Mr Fothergill sometimes has reduced price packs of mixed veggies for autumn planting. These have been excellent in the past, and the reduction in price offsets p&p

Our local garden centres have a wide range of plug plants, and one of the independent ones will even grow by request... might be worth checking out if you have any independents in your area.

I recommend Jersey Direct for plug plants (think it is the same firm as Gardening Direct) . I have bought flower plugs from them over the last few years and the quality is very good indeed and not expensive. I haven't looked at veg plugs but presume they would be the same.
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

I recommend Jersey Direct
I've never bought from them, but I've seen a fair bit of very negative feedback on the Net.  Of course people who have a bad experience are more likely to speak up than those that don't ...

Try the Clockhouse Nursery  Forty Hill Enfield. They have a really big selection of Veg which is both in excellent condition and cheap. It is a 40 min drive from where you are but well worth it.

My friend's using the Rocket Garden this year, as she's got a similar issue. http://www.rocketgardens.co.uk/
