Title: gooseberry bushes
Post by: chickpeacurry on January 03, 2015, 15:41
Looking to buy three new bushes.  The plan is to try and have a early and later variety.  I have looked at pax and this is July cropping.  Can anyone recommend a company they have used. I would like high mildew resistance and spineless.  If possible a red variety and then green or yellow.  If the plant was two years old is it likely to produce fruit this summer. Thanks .  I would really like some gooseberry s in 2015 that don't get mildew thanks

I have 4 Gooseberries, 2 red, 2 yellow/green, produced bumper crops past 2 years.  Sadly they was not spine free, nor did I know what variety they was.  Got them all from the 99p shop :)

Hi. There are a few spineless gooseberry varieties out there. I'm growing Xenia on my plot which is pink when ripe and is delicious. Also have a spineless yellow called Lady Sun but not had fruit from it yet. Another red you could try is Captivator. Not sure of any green varieties that are spine-free, Invicta is mega spiny but really good when ripe, mid/late July  :)
