will a pig cross a river
« on: November 28, 2009, 22:08 »
Can anybody help.Ive managed to persuade a nice landowner to allow me to keep pigs on a two acre broad leaf forest hes got.I think it would be piggy heaven for three or four weaners but I have one concern. Its well fenced on three sides but is bordered on the other side by a river. The river is about 5 feet across and varys in depth from a couple of inches to a couple of feet. Will the river be enough to keep the pigs from going to the other side.If it isn't I think it would be too expensive to fence.Any ideas

Hi the water sounds a bit shallow and they could probably  walk across, have you thought about a strand of electric fence across that part ?
