hi juliec
i've carried many bags of horse dung and others in my car before i had my trailer especially when its  free i found the best way was to get a good strong compost bag don't fill it to the top so you can tie the top up with string that way sealing in the smell and off cause if your careful emptying the bag its re-usable time and time again :)

go fore it  ;)

Often when you fill the bag the outside gets covered in the muck so once you get to the car I tend to put the compost bag into a slightly bigger clean bin liner. These are not as strong but allow you to tie the top easily and keep things clean.

It all depends what you put into the ground, to what you get out

Put a sheet of polythene down in the boot of the car. Sit the bags on top of it, then fold the edges of the sheet over the top of the bags.

Can't you ask the stable if they would stack it in a little corner with your name on it for you until next year?

I would prefer the aroma of good muck to the millions and millions of sand flies I had in the van when I picked up a load of seaweed.    Cheers,   Tony.

When I bring manure from our horses, I put the bag over a trug then put fill it that way the outside keeps clean.
Never leave it in the car, those little bugs get out no matter how tight you tie it.

Depends on the size of your bag Julie...... but your little Ford Fiesta should carry 5 "average" sized adults. Count, you the driver, as one. Now if you're carrying the horse muck in the back (over the axle) then probably no more than two adults worth in weight - maybe 150 -160 Kg which will be about 6 -7 (25 Kg) feed bags worth.

Hope this makes sense!

A trailer would be ideal if you could get hold of one :)

There are still weight restrictions to towing a trailer Jamie depending on your towing vehicle, and if you're under a certain age/not over a certain age you have to take a separate trailer towing test nowadays. :(

I used to calculate each bag of horse muck weighs about 3 stone, so that would be two or three bags on each seat - 2 in the passenger front in case they slide when you drive), then 3 x 3 across the back seat and finally 3 in the hatchback boot; that's 26 stone which is 3 lean adults or two fat ones - well within the capacity of your Fiesta as it was my Peugeot 206.

I don't use horse muck now - the same sized bags of grass mowings and coffee grounds smell nicer in the car and go further on the plot.
