Hi oggy, welcome to the forums. Perhaps you'd be so kind as to pop your location in your profile, as it can help in answering a lot of questions.

This link can help in giving you an insight into the timings:

Personally, in the past, I have tried polythene barriers with reasonable success, certainly far better than the year I skipped 6 barrow loads, but have found complete success in using "Enviromesh".

Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

This is the first year I have had success with carrots, and it is because I grew them in a trough stacked on breeze blocks so that the top of the trough is 5 feet off the ground.

Perfect carrots  :D

Well after last years disaster with carrot fly, I planted all mine in council kerb-it bins in my back garden, no where near any allotments and they were all perfect... not a single problem with any of them...  :D :D
