I have just brought my Jack fruit plants in for the winter, not sure if I needed too but they seem to like it. Just wanted to know if anyone else has grown these before? To be honest I'm amazed they grew after I managed to put them through the wash in my blazer pocket :s . Does anyone know when to put them into bigger pots or if they could ever be planted straight outside?

If they are native to the tropics I wouldn't think they would survive outside, and if they grow as big as a tree.......you'll need an awfully big pot to grow it as a houseplant

What do they taste like and do you cook or eat raw?

you can cook with them but iv only eaten them raw , taste like melon, pineapple& banana mix. The guy that told me to grow them didnt speak very good english and just said plant in soil not compost and they make a nice plant :s lol well iv come this far i guess its just trial and error i have two plants from three seeds  i dont expect to get any fruit from them over here just thought it was something diferent to grow and look at. You can also cook and eat the seeds iv been told.

My son regularly picks them from his plant in the garden. No protection either.

thats a true tropical tree. they grow to unlimited enormous size and the fruits (flowers) shoots out amazingly majical at round 10-15 feet off the bark. but I dont think that will grow here outdoors. It does take ages (10 years minimum) to mature and produce fruit although there are some cultivars which might give you early fruit. and the fruit matures when it size reaches a minimum of 15 kilos. the flowering to fruit will take anything between 6-8 months. so it is almost a year round tree.
