Title: There is a new e-petition to try to overturn the ban on feeding dried mealworms
Post by: wolfpup on July 25, 2014, 16:14
There is a new e-petition   to abolish the ban on feeding dried mealworms and insects to domestic poultry.     It is currently legal to feed live mealworms to your girls but not dried mealworms.

This appears to be a chance to get this stupid ban looked at again.

Is the ban not to do with the fact that some, although not all, dried mealworms are likely to be contaminated in some way? Not good for chooks or those who eat their eggs and meat!  :(

I think the term is 'may be'  not 'likely'.    However if they are considering using dried insects for the commercial poultry feed trade - why not the domestic.   Bearing in mind that nearly all poultry feed contains soy - for the protein - and that 95% of soy is GM,  I'd vote for the dried insects any day.

the term may be is enough to stop me feeding meal worms to my girls, at least with live they are bred over here under stricter rules.
If you check your feed it should say if it contains gm crops, organic or the small holder ranges dont.
