Bell peppers
« on: August 30, 2015, 09:01 »
Its my first time growing peppers and I need advice from someone who is experienced with these, one of the plants has a fruit the size of a tennis ball and others range from golf ball size to a pea, some are not even at a decent flower stage while some have 2 fruits and others only one, I have cut any flower trusses above the fruits to encourage them to bulk up but what should I do with the non fruiting plants, I am thinking of putting them through the shredder and then the compost bin so the other plants have more light and air? cheers Dave
Today i will be mainly wearing no trousers

Personally, I would bin any plants that didn't have any fruit.  If the autumn is mild golf ball sized fruit may well do something.  Pea sized - hmmmmm  maybe, but if you have plenty more room after the non-productive plants are gone, no harm in keeping them.

Pepper plants can come inside the house at the end of the season, if you have room.  They will finish ripening fruit indoors quite happily  :)

Because only one of my own sown pepper plants grew I bought a bell pepper plant from the local GC.

The bought one has funny shaped, golf ball sized peppers on it, which then start to rot and fall off.  3ft away from it is the one of my own that only has 3 or 4 fruits on, but they are growing to full size!   :)

Mum of Stig very generously posted me some seeds from Spanish Mammoth this year and they have done very well.  If anyone wants some seeds from my saved seeds this year let me know and I'll post a few packets out for next season.

All the best

Adri
