Will it work?
« on: June 26, 2010, 17:16 »
I know a lot of people use different methods to supress weeds, membrane, cardboard, mulch, black poly sheeting etc...
But I have a question... is it possible to plant through black poly successfully, or would the heat generated in the soil have any adverse effect on plants?

the main concern comes to my mind is watering/drainage.  ???
One kid is handful. Two kids.... Example for chaos theory. Hats off to my mum who managed three...

Can't remember where I read it but I think it does not do the soil any good. Guess the humidity might encourage the growth of all sorts of mold / fungus.

I laid a bit of tarpaulin down the middle of my greenhouse....until I can get some slabs sorted...and under there it is disgusting...wet slimey and slugs and who knows what else  it looks positively crawling..YUK

So I wouldn't recommend it .......................

Thanks everyone.. I decided against the poly sheeting it and go for two layers of weed supressing membrane.
I looked under a sheet that has been down for a few weeks just out of cusiosity and there was a family of slugs underneath it.
I would have thought with all the hot dry weather we've been having lately it would be far too hot for anything to survive underneath it?
Oh well.... live and learn....  ::)
