i'm looking to get something along the blueberry line this year.

whilst looking at the more conventional ones i came across the honeyberry (Lonicera caerulea). says it's a cross between honey suckle and blue berry.

will these climb and be able to be train like honey suckle? also will the still need to be grown in acidic compost?

any general opinions welcome please.

also thinking about growing pink lemonade blue berries, any one growing these and any opinions?

thanks.

thanks for the reply.

do you know what shape and size these grow to? i'm assuming they have similar characteristics to blue berries. i could do with knowing how much space they need and if they grow in a bush.

also do you know or could you find out if they need acidic soil (similar to blue berries)?

cheers

Hi,

Whilst I don't have either I vaguely remember a similar question where a number of members seemed to think that the honeyberry was incredibly difficult to get to fruit, in particular to fruit with any volume.

Hope that slightly helps!

I have 3 honeyberrys planted close to each other. Been there 2 years. Not a single berry yet. I heard they fruit more when you have 2+ plants together.

I have four two year old pink lemonade bushes and they seem more vigorous than blueberries. Looks like a few flower buds this year  :D

I have 3 honeyberries near each other, and they fruit very plentifully every year - my kids aren't convinced about their flavour though, so I'm having to try and be inventive in how I use them, or else they will have to go to make space for something different. They're very easy to grow though - just leave them to it, with just a manure mulch in the spring. They're also very hardy.
