Did you try googling it? I drank it too as a child, but that's so long ago I  can't remember whether I liked it or not! :roll:

This was taken from here although I changed it by reducing the amount of water massively so I could make a syrup to use with carbonated water

Heat 1.5 litres of water in a pan, when boiling add:

    * 2 teaspoons fine ground dandelion root (Might need a mortar & pestle)
    * 1.5 teaspoons fine ground burdock root (Might need a mortar & pestle)
    * 5x 50p sized slices of root ginger
    * 1 1/2 star anise
    * 1 teaspoon of citric acid
    * Zest of an orange

Leave that little lot to simmer for 15-20 minutes, it will smell a lot like a health food shop, then strain through a tea towel, muslin isn’t really fine enough. Whilst the liquid is still hot you need to dissolve about 750g sugar. If you prefer is sweeter or ‘not-sweeter’ adjust the sugar. If you’re finding the drink a bit flavourless simply add more sugar, it accentuates the flavours of the roots and anise.

I'm gonna look like a dumb blonde for asking this .... nothing new there I suppose ....

I can dig the roots of the dandelions ( those yellow things that mar a lawn for a perfectionist right? ), and use those ? :shock:

Yep, thats what I used, you just need to dry them. I cut mine in half along the root and put them in my food dryer and then pounded them in my mortar and pestle :) Oh and I got the burdock root from a new age thing on ebay. Apparently witches use it for something....

What is all this about how to grow burdock seeds and buying roots from witches?

It is a common weed in this area. Big rhubarb like leaves and the seedheads stick to your clothing. Great when we were kids for throwing at each other.

Yeah I used to see it everywhere as a kid. It has like little teasels on the top but I have no idea where to find it now. Hence the ebay witch shop :)

I'm gonna get some strange looks when I start collecting dandelion roots ...

If you collect too many and have nothing else to do and own a Rayburn/Arga, clean the roots and put on a baking tray and leave in the warming oven over night (Don't burn them, just slowly roast them) then grind them up and make a caffine free Dandelion Coffee.

You will never look back and probably never make Dandelion Coffee again.
