The saga continues with my poorly coucou marans. She seemed a bit better yesterday but is poorly again today. She's moping about and hardly moves (unless we are trying to catch her). Her crop seems fine now and poo was more solid yesterday but is back to being runny again today. When we picked her up we saw that she is bald underneath her tummy. Her comb and wattles are very dark red, almost purplish, although after she'd run across the garden they were red again. The 'chicken' vet isn't in until tomorrow afternoon so we're just hoping that if we keep her in the warm tonight she'll be ok 'til then. :(

hope she survived the night, however the changes in the comb sounds like she could have a heart problem (it returned to normal after she had got the blood pumping when she ran).
As for the change in her pooh you may need to find out what she has been eating as this could be the cause of that problem.

Well we took Margot to the vet this afternoon and she had a huge tumour on her oviduct. It had obviously grown really fast as it was not palpable by the vet in June when we took her. Explains why she hasn't been laying anyway. No wonder she'd been looking poorly poor love. The vet has had to put her to sleep. Very sad, especially as she was only 11 months old, but the kindest thing in the end. :(

Sorry to hear your news I have an Ancona that was diagnosed with the same problem but, as she wasnt in pain, I decided to keep her. She has moulted and refeathered and is now quite a stunning bird and (as previously posted) the 'tumour' has gone. Im hoping she may even start laying in the spring, she is less than a year old too.

Glad to hear that your girl got better Prod. Did you have any meds to help get rid of the tumour? Our Margot was really very poorly at the end. She went down so fast. We noticed that her poo was a bit runny and she had a squishy crop, so we segregated her and gave her live yoghurt with mashed banana, as per advice on the forum, and she picked up. But the next day she was very quiet and we noticed that her comb and wattles were very dark. That's when we rang the vet. She must have been feeling off colour for a while though without any real symptoms (other than the lack of eggs). When she first stopped laying the vet gave her a thorough examination and couldn't feel anything untoward. The tumour must have grown really fast. He didn't give us dimensions but he said it was huge and very solid.
