chicken with swollen lump under chin!

This is my first post here and I hope someone out there might be able to help us with our poorly chicken. A few days ago I noticed 'pink' had a swelling underneath her chin between her wattles, when we investigated we found the whole left side of her mouth and under her tongue was full of undigested food, which smelled awful! We managed to push the food up from underneath and got most of it out, although her mouth did bleed a little, then we rinsed it out with salt water. For a day or two this seemed to have worked and we have rinsed it again with salt water, but today it was very swollen again with yellow 'gooey' food in it we couldn't squeeze out and she seems to be struggling eating. We have found ourselves wondering if we should try to operate on her, cutting the lump and cleaning it out, or do I just face facts and do 'the un thinkable'?!?! Any advise you can offer will be gratefully accepted. Thanks.

I agree with Kegs,take her to a vet. I personally would never attempt to operate on any of my hens..Aden..

This isnt undigested food, its more likely to be pus..... bird pus is solid and cheesy not runny like ours....

She has obviously got a bad infection which is going to be painful and distressing for her and  unless you are going to get her the antiobiotics she needs she should be culled.

If it is draining then cutting her about isnt going to cure her, she need medicine.

Just out of interest if your cat/dog/child had a similar condition, would you operate on them yourself???
