Baby celery
« on: June 02, 2010, 15:50 »
I have just cut some very young celery stalks, self blanching sort.  Its been in the garden for two or three weeks now.  I'l see what the old man makes of them in his salad, I don't really like celery.  I tast a tiny piece though and very strong celery taste, crunchy.  Never thought of doing it before but might be an idea from now on.

Their crowns are just coming through the stalks I cut were long strays, longish about 7 inches, probably long cos sarted off indoors.

Celery is actually a bog lover and the more and regular water you can give it, the sweeter it is. I find even self blanchings rarely do so I shade mine between taller veg and they're not so green and bitter as often happens.
