The Weather.....
« on: March 23, 2013, 17:58 »
Can anyone remember the last time we had 2 consecutive days when it was sunny!!??!

I havent been down the lotty since late November apart from just chucking some stuff on the compo and check my broad beans and onion sets....

My Garlic rotted in the ground (planted in late October) and it is severly waterlogged througout.

It's just relentless. It's been like this for about 8 months now (or it seems like it)

Everything I have sown indoors (Chilli's, Cucurbits & Tommy Tee's) are really leggy, and still only have the cotyledon leaves as they are not getting any sunshine, even though they are in a south facing window, inside a window green house.

I should really put the spuds in in the next couple of weeks, but feel reluctant too.....

What are other people doing?

Regards

Wizzy

When weeding, the best way to know if its a weed and not a valuable plant is to pull it.

If it comes out easy, it was a valuable plant !

Whereabouts are you wizzy?  We had 3 lovely warm sunny days about 2 weeks ago.  Even sat on the patio with my coffee and book for a little while!  :)

Put your rough location in your profile, then if you ask any questions, if we know your region, you may get more accurate answers!   ;)

What are other people doing?

Waiting...............with increasing impatience!  :nowink:

Not even contemplating sowing cucurbits or toms for another month - if your room is heated and has double glazing I suggest you dispense with the mini-greenhouse which will only reduce the amount of light still further.

Use DD's "tinfoil trick" to reflect more light back to the seedlings and they may strengthen up, although if they are really leggy it might be better to chuck them and start again in a few weeks (although you might have to persevere with the chillies because unlike toms and squashes they do need a particularly long growing season.)
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

Looking at last years diary I was at full pelt with everything growing. This year I have planted nothing and sown nothing.
We will all soon catch up when the growing conditions improve.

all we can hope is that summer ends as late as it starts or/ and we get a mild autumn i guess.

i'm not complaining as i've had to work my genitals off to get the soil any where near ready and a poly tunnel built in my new garden. i've only just received my seeds due to late ordering for this reason so kind of a blessing for me. if i had the seeds and ground ready earlier i would have prob been too eager and wasted the lot.

I've updated my profile.

I'm in Littlehampton, West Sussex, so very close to the sea and it's usually quite warm during the summer.

It just never stops raining for any length of time, or it seems like it dont.

Here's hoping for a long growing season (when it finally starts)

Regards

Wizzy
