Squash ID please (photos provided)
« on: August 23, 2014, 13:18 »
This squash vine self-set in among my peas and I allowed it to do its thing - live or die. Now the peas are cleared the squash vine has taken up residence and has a good number of fruits.

They don't sound ready when you tap them (sound too solid) so they have more growing to do, but I don't know what they are.

Does anyone recognise the vine or the fruits please? The leaves appear like Courgette leaves but the growth pattern is a creeping vine rather than a central stem rosette.

The fruits start pale green, deepen in colour and then become more golden as the attached photos.

Yes I should say a 'Pepo' cross, i.e. most probably a courgette.

You won't get butternuts & courgette's crossing easily, different species.

- so a kind of marrow? - which would explain why they sound a long way from maturing yet - they don't tap right.

Marrow Rum for Christmas then!
