Hi

Is First Steps in Winemaking by C.J.J. Berry the best winemaking book?

Thank you

As far as we're concerned, it is. We started wine making a couple of years ago, with absolutely no experience, and this little book was inaluable. We have since made well over 300 bottles of wine using many of CJ's recipes, all of which have turned out well.
The undisputed guv,nor!

Also have a look for Basic Winemaking by Brian Leverett.

Fairly similar overall but an alternative.
I have the 130 New Winemaking Recipe's by Berry.

Have read some people saying that some of Berry's recipe's can use a lot of sugar, so another reference can be useful. However as some yeasts will now tolerate higher alcohol they may happily consume more sugar.

Have a well thumbed copy of Berry's 'More Winemaking recipes' - at least I think that was the title but my Nan has borrowed it!    Good for a little more inspiration after 'first steps'

By far the best book on the subject to my mind is

"Drink your own Garden" by Judith Glover.  No I.S.B.N. I'm afraid.    Cheers,    Tony.
