Sweetcorn Rustlers
« on: September 21, 2021, 10:55 »
Last year everyone over our site had their Sweetcorn eaten by what we put down to rats. Whilst over the plot at the weekend I could see on a neighbors plot one or their corn waving vigorously even though there was no wind.
Sneaked over to find a Squirrel helping their self to one of the cobs, looks' like I owe the rats an apology!

We lost ours last year too.  Arrived one day to find the cobs still on the plants but completely stripped.  They've been caged this year and so far it's only been us munching on them!

its a yearly battle for me. you always know when your corn is ripe because some critters get there before you

ive tried everything from painting a watered down chilli powder on the outside, to paper bags.  but this year, just when i saw the first one nibbled i sourced some crispy plastic bags...open each end so no sweating, and secured with an elastic band in the middle...after years of trying to out do the critters, this worked :D
