I think people who raise birds for meat keep them separate to those they have for eggs.

I have 12 growers (about 8 boys  ) for the table and 6 hens (at the moment) for eggs.

The growers I think of as completely separate to the girls.  e.g. they don't have names, I don't chat with them - basically it's all business.  Although I'm not looking forward to "doing the deed" I am looking forward to eating home grown chicken.

Ar I see thats the big answer and I understand you dont get attached to them, how did gordon ramsay manage to kill his then even After he gave them names...... they really are delightful little creatures aren't they. After years of keeping exotics I thought why?? when these lovely natured little birdies which actually do a great job as well (although yet to reach that stage)  are far far better. Well after less than a week in, I am hooked folks, I think someone on here did say I would be.
