Should you paint broken fruit tree branches ?
« on: August 18, 2019, 22:48 »
Big lesson learned this year as both my Victoria plum and family pear tree had SO much fruit it
has broken their branches  😣   this was the first year they were really full if fruit and I was super excited and had no idea I should reduce weight -  oh well lesson learnt. I have read that you should  paint the wound on the branch and also read that you should leave the tree to heal itself ???? What is the best way to treat the broken branches both are about 2cm diametre.  And what paint should  I use - is it organic ?

Good morning Under The Hill,
first thing to do is to cut off the rough 'stump' of the branch (at the tree end) as cleanly as possible at such an angle so rain water won't pool on it.  Then I should leave it.

Cheers,  Tony.
I may be growing OLD, but I refuse to grow UP !
