Bonding a plastic fuel tank
« on: June 16, 2012, 17:22 »
I need to separate the two halves of a plastic fuel tank and am not sure how to bond the two bits back together.  Can anyone please recommend a glue/sealant?

Many thanks
Andy

I wanted replace the uptake fuel line, and was thinking that this was an easy way of pulling the new tube through the small hole?

If you can secure the two halves together (jubilee clips)? and hold them in place, I can recommend a product called    "Petseal".

You can find the information in any motorcycle mag catering for the 'older' bikes as it is a two part mix you swill round the inside of fuel tanks and then dump the excess.  Very good if your fuel tank is rusted through and it withstands road vibration.

Cheers,    Tony.

Most definately not the most easy way of fitting a new tube!!!!!
Is there not a grommet in the tank that the tube passes through??

Hi smud6ie, I think I've found a better way.  The problem was the hole in the plastic was really tight which made passing through the new tube impossible.  So I used a drill and made the hole slightly bigger, this was just enough to push the new tube in, pass out through the fuel filler and fit the filter.

Cheers
Andy

Its a better way then cutting the tank but if it was the correct size pipe, you could have cut the end of the tube at about 20 degrees, the end  would poke through the other side enough grip with  a pliers and pulled all the way.Done fron inside out with a loop of wire to guide the pipe to the hole .
