Messy bottom!!
« on: February 07, 2012, 21:06 »
One of my black rock chooks, Penny, has a very messy bottom.  She has been like this for the last couple of days.  Should I try and wash her?

You can give her bottom a bath in warm water and use baby shampoo to soften and loosen the poo.  Very important this weather to gently dry using a hairdryer. Most chucks settle to this and seem to enjoy it. :)

If she has permanent runny poos she may have a worm infestation.  Clean her up and then keep an eye on her.  If you haven't wormed your hens with flubenvet recently it would be best to treat them now.
