Can't be ars*d with trying that. I just tie 10 or so in a bunch & hang 'em up!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

nasturtium says she found an article : http://www.chat.allotment-garden.org/viewtopic.php?p=80507#80507 : no link though?

I braid some garlic for sale and it does look nice.  Bit of a pain to do though.  Here is another way (with piccies but looks complicated) : http://www.bloomingfieldsfarm.com/garbrdhow.html

My OH strung the onions together one year and they were that heavy the only place we could hang them was from the steel girder in the garage!!

You can do it by making a long loop of string, tie a big onion to the bottom then attach the rest by putting the stem through the middle of the loop  then around one of the side strings and through the middle again.Keep doing this with other onions ,the length will depend on the strength of the string and where you are going to hang it.I get empty onion bags from the green grocer, much easier!

I didn't get on with plaiting very well either, so when I string them, I just tie big one to the bottom like Munty said, then tie them on 2 at a time, look slightly plaited when finished, but this year I saved a big carrot bag from when I made my carrot wine, holds 20kg, and packed them in this and other nety bags that I've saved.

I've used tights as well in the past, but they do tend to strntch a bit with the weight!!!! lol
