If it's just grass then it should be ok.  My cordless hasn't got the power of a petrol or electric version but it does the job.   :)
Cheese makes everything better.

I have a Ryobi cordless strimmer and it's great, I have four batteries for it so I can do the whole plot.

I used to have a cheap B&D cordelss I used for the front garden. It was dire. In the end I sent it to a car boot and felt guilty taking £5 off someone for it.

My neighbour on the allotment has an 18v Ryobi which is totally different, cuts very well -  but it cost him £80 with just one battery and that does about a third of his plot then needs recharging.

I have a petrol McCulloch, but went for the 25cc machine with split shaft, so I can add attachments in the future, it cost me £99 from Tesco and came when they were doing double your points garden vouchers on clubcard. It's been excellent, the only tricky bit is refilling the line spool. Starts first pull every time.

The McCulloch was my second choice, there is a similar Ryobi 30cc machine with split shaft for similar money, and I guessed the extra 5hp may be useful for some of the attachments, but alas was not offered by Tesco.

I would deff reccomend petrol, but if you do go for a rechargeable avoid the cheap ones.
I hoe, I hoe, it's off to weed I go.

I have a petrol Flymo strimmer, and it has a strange double line spool on it which is a right pain.  The line keeps snapping and it is really fiddly to reset it up.
I would not have another one, or recommend them to anyone.
