Ryobi leaf blower
« on: December 14, 2009, 16:42 »
I am having trouble with my Ryobi Leaf blower model P15V-30A.
I can get it started but only for about 30 seconds then it cuts out.  I have changed the
plug but no difference.

Has anyone got any ideas?

Be interested to learn if you do have success as we have a Ryobi strimmer with the same problem.

Have you left fuel in it for a while? it could be that it has deteriorated and has now left a residue either on the fuel filter ( so it won't pick up enough petrol ) or in the carb.
You may also find that the fuel tank has a breather in its design. This allows air into the tank, as petrol is taken out. Over time, especially on two strokes, this breather can become blocked with oil, and eventually stops working. This will give the symptoms you describe.
The breather may be built into the fuel caps design, or is often a separate device which you may locate near the where the petrol pipes come out of the fuel tank.

I hope this helps. :)

Apologises if I am "hijacking" this topic. But, picking up on the comment "fuel deteriorating". Is it advisable to drain the fuel tank of all rotovators, mowers etc, etc? During the winter months most, if not all, of these machines are usually stored. Three maybe four months. Thanks.

Definately.
fuel can go "off" very quickly.
Always run a machine out of petrol (or drain it ) if it's not in regular use. :)

Thanks Graham,  It is fairly new and has been stored for more than 3 or 4 weeks at a time.

It was running OK and then it ran out of fuel so I filled the tank and then started to get
the problems.  I put the fuel in thru a funnel with a built in filter.

Thanks Gwiz. What about adding a "fuel additive"? In an attempt to stop the fuel deteriorating. Or are they a waste of time and money? Thanks.

Far cheaper, and potentially less hassle, just to empty the tank.
