E-engining a Norlett Tillermate S3

My trusty Norlett Tillermate s3 is strongly built but old and the Briggs & Stratton 3 hp engine runs well but seems to run out of steam after half an hour and at 61 so do I. Has anyone tried to re-engine one of these with perhaps a 5hp Honda engine? Looking for any advice/snags = basically is it a good idea or not? Thanks John.

hi if you use a honda engine check crank shaft size they can be different diameters on same models{ie}metric and imperial can also be different lengths and tapered . ive just re-engined a merry tiller with brigg &stratton intec proplus5.5hp only problem i found was that the engine being over head valve it fould handle bar height adjuster a couple of 1/8 washers sorted that .a perfect fit other wise jezza

Thanks Jezza, I will be sure to measure the shaft size exactly. I had thought Honda simply because of their reputation for reliability and build, but maybe another B&S would be more sensible as less likely to find fitting problems and maybe even cheaper.
