Title: Heated Propagators
Post by: The Red Baron on January 15, 2014, 13:00
Afternoon all, since this is my first year growing, I'm keen as mustard to get cracking. I'm looking for advice on heated propagators, what's the best? I'm looking to use it for starting my chillies, tomatoes, tomatillos and aubergines....but I'd rather not have to remortgage my house to pay for it haha
Cheers
Tony

I have one of these that I bought a couple of years ago. It does the job just fine.

Lots of folk just germinate seeds in warm places such as their airing cupboard and then bring them out, but I don't have one in my house. This fits on the kitchen windowsill just right  :D

Lots of other info on here, as Compost Queen said  :nowink:

I bought the heated version and liked it so much ..... Bought another one when there was a special offer.
The smaller trays are perfect for tomato, chilli and aubergine seeds and you can fit larger trays in if you want.

I have had a wee peek at the super seven before but never actually had my hands on one, I'll see if I can hunt one down and maybe get one

I bought a Super 7 just before Christmas and since have used it for my onion seeds. With excellent results. Today, I "pricked-out" the resulting onion seedlings into modules prior to moving into my unheated greenhouse. More onion and early leeks seeds are currently taking up room within the Super 7.

This is the best buy I can find: Including postage is £27.20.

Sunshines link is for the self-watering version. Not the Super 7 electric version.

I have not previously grown anything from seed starting indoors, but will be this year.  It might sound like a stupid question, but with a propagator such as the Super 7, how many seeds would you be able to fit in each section.  For example, if one of my aims is to grow onions in a standard sized raised bed (2.4m x 1.2m) would I be able to sow sufficient number of seeds in one of the Super 7 sections?  How much spacing do seeds need?

Thanks.

I bought this one last year with double top and its great apart from needing new unit to control it, but they have revised it and sending me the new type one that is water proof and better.

Mike.

Two full sized ones, id say. So small then four. But Id wished id bought double one now as not big when you have two many things in there. Id recommend double height.
