Chitting potatoes
« on: May 27, 2019, 17:25 »
Hi all, I am confused.
They say chit pots in light.
Today I found an early seed potato in my greenhouse that was one too many for planting - no sprouts.
Left ovr 2nd's and my main have not chitted in a closed box.
Supermarket pots in closed cupboard in dim utility room chit within a week.

Why do we buy relatively expensive seed potatoes?

It is best to buy seed potatoes, as they are virus free.
We come from the earth, we return to the earth, and in between we garden.

Nuff said ;)
Plus the chit should be very short and not leggy hence why they look like they have hardly done owt.
Always use seed spuds for the reasons above.

Wilkos dirt cheap for spuds in fact everything. Spuds were I think £2.50 for a kilo or 3 for 2. I had the onion sets as the freeby £1.50 for 500 grams. I counted 174 onions growing from the 500 grams.
