So, the chooks have been on a patch of garden about 3.5 metres by just over a metre wide and Im about to move them to a new patch, and Im wondering about growing something on there, perhaps some red onions?

However, Im wondering if anyone has any thoughts on if this is a good or bad idea?

Don't try potatoes as you might get scab. A lot of calcium goes through chickens. I grew some spuds in post with chicken manure and they had incredibly bad scab. The manure hadn't broken down enough.

I'd have thought brassicas would do well as the ground will be hard, so sprouts should be excellent

What about the hungry feeders - runner beans. You might need to add a bit of compost but they could do well.
