'First in the field' tomatoes...
« on: April 12, 2012, 16:27 »
I've just been sent a free packet of 'First in the field' tomato seeds, with a Dolmio promotion to try a competition for a holiday in Italy, or a box of veg for a year!

Naturally, I think this is a very generous gesture on Dolmio's part, and I am very grateful for the dozen or so seeds, but I can't find anything about them at all!

Has anyone else ever grown them, as we won't have a greenhouse this year, and everything will go outside - which I am told on the packet will be OK!

As the name implies "First in the FIELD", they can be grown as an outdoor variety  ;)   Kings Seeds sell them http://www.kingsseeds.com/kolist45/3/e=3/0/14805.htm

Surprised there isn't much info out there on them Growster as they are an old bush variety that has been around for years  :)

Supposed to be early and very tasty.  Bush types usually beat the blight so should be fine on the plot  ;)

Thanks all, I tried the usual suspects and of course, here, but the pics didn't seem to work on King's site.

I was also interested to find out if anyone else had been so lucky, as we could all win together, hire a coach, and twirl down to Tuscany in a haze of Chianti and a Dolmio sandwich or three, singing a happy song...;0)

Matt, we're supposed to know all about these tomatoes, so just keep your head down, and we may just get away with it...;0)

As they're bush plants Kim, you'll need even more space...!

I grow bush plants in hanging baskets. The toms hang over the side. Too easy to pick :D

Anyway where's my seed??

I have to state that - as I'm still eating my own tomatoes from last year and haven't bought any Dolmio jars  - I have not received their free seeds  :D

Just as well, I have too many growing already  :nowink:
