field lettuce
« on: August 06, 2007, 21:44 »
I planted some long-leaved field lettuce (lamb's lettuce) about two-three weeks ago when the rain was coming down in buckets. I had a very successful crop last year (luckily, because I planted the short-leaved variety many moons ago and never had much luck).
Anyhow, as far as I can see nothing has come up. I think I did everything right. It was wet (which they like) I mad the soil nice and firm with a hoe, because they like a firm footing and I've been watering the rows since the sun started shining again. Should I start again or have a bit more patience? I wonder if the slugs have got their teeth into my crop!!! When's the deadline for sowing this type of lettuce?
