Title: Coming food crisis?
Post by: John on June 28, 2022, 15:01
In my opinion, those who can should be looking to grow as much as they can for themselves as the global food situation worsens.

I thought the same, John, and have started more Spring veg, so hopefully, I can bridge the hungry gap which I don't usually worry about. I also put in more potatoes than usual.
It's a worrying time all round.
PS I will admit at the first inkling of a wheat shortage, I ordered a lot of bread flour direct from the mill.
As long as it is still a reasonable price, I will continue to order my usual delivery, but use the oldest stock first. If we ever get to the stage when it is really expensive, or there are empty shelves, I reckon I have a good 8 months worth to fall back on.... Here's hoping it never gets that bad, but I'm happier having my back up, plus my home grown veg.

We have noticed an increase in anxiety among allotment tenants about theft of plants and produce. There's always been that risk, and I had some spuds stolen many years ago, but people are getting more desperate (and we are not a locked site). Only this weekend, someone was really upset because their yellow courgette plant had been uprooted lock stock and barrel

That is concerning - there's always been theft and vandalism but generally equipment was stolen for the money.
