Two questions on pigeons
« on: May 27, 2009, 10:01 »
 1.  The b....y pigeons have chewed my caulis. The new growth in the middle seems ok will
they recover?
2. Will they chew sweetcorn? I am just about to plant them, they are about 6inches tall
and look really nice. >:(

I would think that if the middles of the caulis are ok they should be ok. Mine were attacked so I put netting on them and they are doing great now.
I put my sweetcorn out about 2 weeks ago uncovered and fingers crossed they have not been touched as yet.

Use one of these, and you can have something to go with the caulies.

I`ve known rooks to wreak havoc in a field of maize by pulling the whole plants up but i think woodies tend to leave it alone.

I think your sweetcorn should be fine, I was advised to net them as the cobs started to form, we're a few weeks away from that yet!!
