Is it cast iron? If so it may leave a metallic taste in the chutney.

I used my Le Creuset for a while - it didn't have any chips in the enamel lining and I didn't notice a metallic taste but I bow to Val's advice  :D
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

A lot of Le Creuset don't have the enamel lining. John, in bygone days, used to sell them! That's why I asked if it was cast iron. The ones that are uncoated will not only stick but give an aftertaste to the chutney.

My le creuset pot is a really old one, as i said inherited of Mum, so I don't think I'll risk making a load of horrible chutney in it after what i have read on here.
I was dropping subtle hints about having a preserving pan in my Christmas stocking this year today to Mum.
She rambled on a bit about how we were all really too old for stockings any more as she does every year. (i'm 35 and my eldest brother is 40  :))
She then warned me not to start pilfering all her preserving jars IF I got one in my stocking.  :)
So I think the hint has been taken.  ::)

I have to say it will have to be quite an enormous stocking!

It'll just about fit in a pillowcase, I think you'll find  ;)

Lol  :)
Thats what we use at Christmas!..... pillowcases instead of stockings!

Sorry for going really off topic, but my Mum always makes one up for us every year as she has done since we were kids (with Santa's help obviously)
She even packages one up and sends it to my 40 year old brother in the USA.  ::)

I think she is secretly happy at my preserving pan idea as she always likes to put something useful in there now we are all grown up. I got a dish drainer last year.  :)

And I bet that if she doesn't make chutney anymore, she'll really be happy to give you some of her jars!
