I have recently bought myself a proper preserving pan but managed without it for years - as long as you have a big enough casserole dish which isn't aluminium you'll be fine for equipment

Good luck  :D
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

I'd go for Val's book.  Did the pear chutney on Saturday.  First taste before putting in the jars was pretty good.  Can't wait it it's matured.

Apparently my Mother used to wash us in the chutney pan when we were little babies.

Start off with an large enamel or stainless steel saucepan. If you feel the need for a preserving pan, try Amazon. I think they're the same and about £5 or more cheaper.

I've got a huge 'le creuset'  pan that Mum gave me cause it is too heavy now even without any contents for her to lift.
Would that do?

Is it cast iron? If so it may leave a metallic taste in the chutney.

Actually yes it is, so I suppose I'll have to go out and buy a suitable pan.
Or ask Father Christmas for one..........!!! (along with your book) :D

I had to buy more jars ate the weekend because I have run out and so have all my donors.
We have a brand new lakeland shop here and they had some 8oz ones that were £5.99 for 12--- juts the right size for present baskets.

Green tomato now safely in, and tastes gorgeous already  :D

I will be doing some lemon and mustard seed. Well, I've got a few more jars...
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.

I got the same jars and lids online, we talked about it on a post on here, for a third of the price even after I added the £10 p and p  ;)

I use my big nonstick saucepan sometimes which does have a name that escapes me, I call it my crockpot.  I have one from marks, simply because I desperately needed a new one and couldn't find one elsewhere, that cost £30 four year ago (it has a lid which you don't need of course for chutney) and I have a cheaper one from sainsburys.  I sterilize the jars in the oven not the pan.  So I suppose any size non stick pan depending on how many veg you got.  Unless there is a reson you can't just use your nonstick pans.

Cut a long story short a wooden spoon, non stick or whatever pan, jars with lids.
