Planted first thing ever!
« on: March 24, 2007, 21:44 »
Well today I planted my onion sets with the aid of my 4 kids, the 1 year old was very enthusiastic and has shoved the onions in anywhere and everwhere so  I don't know what they are going to come up like!

I think I will be setting off alone next week to put the potatoes in, there was just too many little hands everywhere.

I really enjoyed it though and can't wait to see the shoots, I just hope no one looks at the state of it and thinks I am silly.  I almost feel like putting up a notice that it is my kids plot!

As I understand it GW and other gardening programmes are made a year or so ago
They only use the "best fit" dates having no knowledge of what the weather and stuff will be like when the prog. is broadcast

I understood that the bits at Berryfields were current (and the weather comments do match) but that the stuff away from Berryfields was shot months previously (as some obviously in summer etc.).

Don't forget to keep a record of what you've planted and when - then if it was too early or too late, next year you will be able to adjust sowing and planting times to suit your local conditions  :)

Don't worry too much about being too late - I didn't get my plot until the end of last March, and then went to Spain for a month, so nothing got planted until I got home - and we had planty of lovely onions  :D

i planted some onions today, as well as some spring onions and i've started off some Broccoli and summer cabbages in seed trays. i'm gonna start some leeks off as well, and try and put down turnips this week.

i've got some carrots and Parsnips to put down too, but i'm not sure how deep to dig the beds, (any suggestions and advice greatly received).

i'm just sowing a bit of everytthing, its my first time trying any of this, so i'm just really  seeing what will grow and what wont.
