Back near kills me.

There's an old saying about sea sickness, it won't kill you but you'll wish it did. Well a bad back can be worse, as I've just found out.

Back near kills me.

I have sympathy with back pain sufferers. I prolapsed two discs quite some time ago now but OMG the pain ! The NHS were as much use as a chocolate teapot although my GP was very good and fixed me up with a  Physio terrorist which really helped a lot. I eventually got to see a consultant 14 weeks later who said before he even examined me " I cannot operate because I am off on holiday" to which I replied I do not want you to operate I want you to tell me what is wrong with my back! Oh he says take your shirt off and bend forward... yep two prolapsed discs keep the weight off and watch what you do lifting things, it wiull be about three years before you will be painless. The last bit was absolutely true it took a long long time but eventually I was ok... but I still have constant pins and needles in my left leg and foot. Never get much trouble fro the back though... and if I do 600mg of ibuprofen just before going to bed... normally perfect in the morning.

Happily it's eased off a lot now - actually slept without taking more than ibuprofen.  When we called 999 I was in such pain, though. I honestly can't recall having had something hurt that badly ever before, including the appendix and the car smash.

I'll start on some back exercises next week to strengthen it.

You might want to work on core strength exercises & or yoga. My yoga teacher has a YouTube channel, she is very good.

I’ve copied  the link to her video for sciatica pain here but she has mobility & relaxation ones too
j4Yvd_-lTVkHmm that’s not worked

I wouldn't be in a hurry to start doing exercises, apart from stretching to lengthen the spine, until your back is fully recovered. You really don't want to aggravate it,
I do these, mainly the 2nd nerve flossing one when my back is playing up https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jrp1b7FnSqs

I had a bad back the other week lifting some paving slabs so got the sun in law to lift them for me sorted back yes but the pain has ended up in my knees not to bad when I get out of bed in the morning two hours later it sarts up again with a vengeance

I've used some of those recommended creams but its not going away I just wondered if it  was something to do with this winter weather very wet and now very cold  I have to say I'm not one to take tablets unless its absolutely necessary and finitely could go for a bike ride with my knees  :D

all I can say is I can't wait till the spring when the weather warms up hopefully until then I mite consider hibernation  :D

One good exercise, is to hang from - say a crossbar, or even a stairwell, just to get some traction going, and open up the disc, and therefore take the pressure off the sciatic nerve.

Poor you, it's a rotten issue, and hurts like hell, but it will get better!

I thought I'd push myself to move around more yesterday. Nothing strenuous, just walking around the house and up and down to the chooks a few times. Anyway, awoke at 4am with pain coming back so managed to split a 2mg diazepam pill which was enough to ease it off and sleep well.
I really don't like taking strong drugs with warnings about addiction - possibly a bit paranoid but I know I'm an addictive personality type. The answer to addiction is don't start! :)

I agree with you about the pills, but you do need to be able to get a decent night of sleep.  Hunching up in pain will just set more muscles and nerves off and tiredness drags you down.

I hope you feel better soon.  It does sound particularly miserable  :(
