there are about 3 of these in the garden growing fast they seem to be getting a bit straggly at the ends , can i cut these off , it says they flower so just wanted to check , luckily the old man who lived here left all the names on his plants

Yes.  Usual pruning time is late winter or early spring, but excess growth can be trimmed at any time of the year, except during frosty or snowy weather.

I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

We used to have them in my parents house, I used to think they were called 'rushing vines' as they were always in a rush to cover every bit of wall they could find.
