I believe I’ve seen blight
« on: June 30, 2019, 22:45 »
  :(.
Was pruning the leaves back on my Romas when I saw those fear inducing grey- brown streaks on the stem. I pulled the affected plant up and bagged it and binned it .
I’m in London, and I’m thinking  the combo of heavy rain earlier in the month and heat now means the dreaded blight is back. I so want to be wrong. The next few days will tell.  Has anyone else spotted it yet?

Not spotted it yet, but I have had the Blightwatch warnings coming through for our area.

My Jazzy have been badly hit with early blight. I have fed them and picked off diseased leaves but one container was beyond help with disease visible in the stems so I harvested. None of the tubers were infected and I got a reasonable crop but some were still very small. I am trying to get the others to limp along for as long as possible to increase the size of the tubers but am keeping an eagle eye on them. First time that I have had blight in Jazzy.

Same here, we've had quite a few warnings - not just the occasional one or 2

Anyone seen it on their toms?
I’m going  to try and go round tomorrow after work. It progresses so fast, if it is blight there’ll probably be more of it  :(.

My tomato plants have leaves shown in the picture below. Is this early blight? I had it last year, but don’t remember how it affected the crop.

Here’s a pic of an affected part of the plant. Pease excuse the tea stains on the paper.

Marty my leaves don’t look like your pic. In my experience, blight affects stems before it affects leaves.

It's either Blight or Botrytis, I'd cut off all the grotty bits and see what happens, if they were mine. Good luck!

Thanks mum. I went over today, I pruned a load of leaves and removed an old spinach plant nearby to promote air circulation. They look OK. I so want them to pull through, summer without home grown tomatoes is not a proper summer!

No - we cant be getting blight not this year please.

We had the wet and now we've got a bit of pretty dry and the heat is on (mostly) so... no. Surely it isn't humid enough for the dreaded thing to start floating about and spreading. :(

I keep an eye out - I have had two warnings from the potato council blight watch but.. here's hoping.

I think it is easier to cope with saving a potato crop from blight than it is rescuing the tomatoes..

I agree Paul, it’s the equivalent of plague for tomatoes. But apparently 1 in 10 survived the Black Death, so maybe my little soldiers will survive this brush with Phytophthora Infestans.
