Sweet Potatoes

Hi everyone, new to this site.  Basically i have a large trug and 'grow bags in the outside garden and an aero garden indoors.

My first attempt with sweet potatoes didnt come to much considering they put a lot of stems and leaves, very bushy and even got flowers!!

I think the way to succeed with sweet potatoes is under cover rather than outside. I grow mine in the border in a polytunnel, just started harvesting, got 3kg off first plant dug up, mostly a decent useable size. They do need a lot of room though, the tubers were spread over about 1 metre square so a couple of them got forked as I initially dug too close to the stem even though I started about 300-400mm away (12-16 inches in old money). The foliage has a spread of at least 3m as well but is not as thugish as a squash and can be grown near other sturdy plants like aubergine & sweet pepper without too much interference.
