Scruffy feathers on top of back
« on: July 18, 2010, 09:51 »
Two of my 3 hens (who are about 24 weeks old now) have a patch of scruffy feathers on top of their back just where the base of the tail feathers join in.  I have noticed once or twice that they periodically peck each other just in that area.

I've had a look but can't immediately see anything untoward but being fairly new, I'm not exactly sure what I am looking for.

Any thoughts??

Mine do that sometimes, but usually after they have been digging & rolling about in the dirt.
They look a bit tatty, but after a few days they look clean & fluffy again.
