Chilies going off
« on: September 21, 2009, 23:01 »
I used an idea from here to thread my chilies and hang them to dry.  I just had a look at them and one has quite badly gone off, the others are softening.

Are there any rules to drying them?  I have them hanging in the kitchen at the window (which is usually open)
What if the Hokey Cokey IS what its all about...

Sounds like you have them somewhere they are getting moist...
Are they being bathed in the steam of cooking or doing the dishes perhaps?
It might be worth transferring them to somewhere less damp, or pop them into an open brown paper bag to dry..........?
Anyways, good luck....

Nigel.

I tie my chilis on the above pipe feeding the radiator in the kitchen.  Lots of dry warm air.  Works a treat for garlic garlands too - just fills the house with a garlicy aroma for the first week. :tongue2:
When I die I will slide in sideways, a glass of wine in one hand and chocolate in the other, screaming, "Whooo hooo!  What a ride!" as life is to be enjoyed to the fullest!

My granddaughter made some chilli garlands for me. Unfortunately she threaded them through the flesh and not through the stalks :( :( Oh well, she tried!!! :D :D

I freeze mine - just straight into a bag and use them direct from it - easy and they keep their colour.

i do this too, and they are so easy to chop too when frozen and i find i get less capsicum (sp?) on my hands too so less chance of irritation
