One large clap of thunder at 3am but after that just rumbling in the distance.  As always our thunder storms are more electrical than noisy.  Overcast but dry all day today.  Haven't been outside so can't comment on the temperature.

I had 36 delivered about 10 days ago, they are potted up and on my breakfast bar (south facing).  But not a lot is happening, the thermo tells me it is about 19c.   Perhaps not warm enough.   Comments please,  Mrs Bouquet

Weedol Path Clear is probably the longest lasting one. He will have to be very careful round the edges though. It kills everything so you don’t want it on any plants in the border.

What is the best weed killer for the gardener to spray onto my large gravel area that will work for a few months.   He wants a liquid one.  Thanks,   Mrs Bouquet

Grow Your Own / Re: trouble with courgettes

I always chit mine in margarine tubs in the hot press so you know if they’re viable in a couple of days, it also eliminates any chance of dodgy compost causing rotting. With the move to peat free there seems to be a lot of pretty rough stuff around. Old yellow seed only got 1 from 4, Lidl round ones almost 100%, T&M climbing ones 2 from 3. Plenty of time to sow more.

Is any one else having trouble germinating courgette seeds? Courgette defender F1 in good quality compost placed in a propogator at 20C. Same as every other year but dire germination rates. First sewing got 2 plants from 8 seeds. second sowing of another 8 seeds 11 days ago and so far none have germinated  :( I have grown courgettes using same variety and technique for years and never had a problem. I have changed supplier to Kings Seeds but they have a good reputation so I am not sure what is the problem?

May be forced to buy some plants this year

If I can gather enough BA's chicken and leek pie and mash. If I can't the thighs will just end up in the slow cooker again.

After an overcast but warm day our rain started at dinner time yesterday and it's been off and on all night. It's currently warmer at 10c but with a bitter wind, it's also very dark and looks like storms are in order.  Not an outside day at all.
