Petrol strimmers and Brushcutters
« on: November 27, 2006, 12:15 »
Hi I live in Barnsley, South Yorkshire and am wanting to buy a powerful petrol strimmer or a powerful brushcutter (preferably a brushcutter with the blade on it). I wouldn't mind a mint conditioned second hand one or a brand new one. Does anyone know a second hand dealer or a very good gardening shop which sells them. I am looking to spend up to £140. Thanks

ive seen a straight shafted brushcutter in the argos cat for about £100. if you want to fit a metal blade, dont buy a petrol trimmer with a bent shaft, as the internal flexable drive wire isnt recomended for use with anything other than a nylon trimmer wire.
all the best

don't dismiss nylon strimmers totally I looked into getting a blade strimmer and found that to get a good one was going to cost nearer £200+ so I got the best nylon strimmer I could get for £100 and fitted xxx heavy duty line - will cut through the toughest weeds (not trees however!)

Best of luck

im just thinking from the point of veiw of someone who repairs this type of stuff for a living, and also from the health and safety point of view.
putting a thicker line on a small trimmer also increases the stress on various parts of the tool, and may very well wear it out quicker.if its a cheapy brushcutter you`re after have a go at this site, its full of reasonably priced stuff, also, komatsu/zenoah equiptment is normally quite good stuff.

I'm also quite taken with the Ryobi - available here http://www.buyamower.co.uk/product_detail.asp?P1=0&P2=100000&tbl=brushcutters&ID=34
It's a strimmer / brushcutter, has a split shaft for ease of transport and  takes other accessories.
