Allians, Rocket, and Presto seed potatoes
« on: January 25, 2009, 19:05 »
I bought some first earlies today at Hampshire Potato Fair: Allians, Rocket, and Presto.
Wanted fast growing spuds that will leave the ground clear by the end of June so that I can get my over-wintering brassicas in the same bit of ground. Ideally I'd like some of them to keep for a couple of months.
Rocket I'm familiar with - it's listed in the literature, the other two are new to me and I can't find any leads on the web. Unfortunately there was no one at the potato fair offering any advice, so hopefully someone out there can offer a lead.

Has anyone got any information or experience of Allians or Presto?

Thanks in advance,

SS

Allians
No luck with Presto though.
I demand the right to buy seed of varieties that are not "distinct, uniform and stable".

Thanks for the lead woodburner, much appreciated.

The presto was being marketed as a blight resistent variety, which I thought unusual for a first early. Can't remember what else the label said though.

I was also at the show & bought the catalogue.
Don't know if this helps, but this is what it says about Presto:
Code: [Select]

Presto - 2004   First early    Raised in Denmark
Very early, lots of tubers and tasty

Skin Colour......Light Yellow
Shape........Oval
Flesh Colour.......yellow
Eye depth.......shallow
Yield.......above average

Recommended use: Boil, salad
Parentage:MV982.034.87 x Mirabel
Resistant to Blackleg, PCN

Don't see any reference to blight resistance.

Good evening Martin,

Thanks for your reply. I didn't see any catalogues for sale, but we did arrive half an hour before closing time and I whizzed around with my old copy of an Alan Romans pamphlet that didn't have most of the first earlies listed.

Regards,

SS
