Width of paths between beds
« on: May 16, 2008, 10:56 »
At the moment our beds are going to be just dug over and no formal paths, but how wide should I make-em.  I have currently got about 60cm but I don't want to waste any more space than neccesary

Measure the width of your wheelbarrow - that's what I go for

I make mine as wide as my foot and a bit. My beds aren't overly long so I don't worry about getting a barrow down them.

Mine are about that wide. Any narrower and you end up kicking stuff in one bed when you're kneeling down at another.
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.

My main path is 2 feet wide that cuts down the middle of the plot, the other paths are about a foot wide :)

I built mine on the wheelbarrow width as well. I'm glad I did as we put lots of rotted manure down each year, and putting it on the bed would be a bore if we couldn't use a wheel barrow! :)

I'm on the main path wheelbarrow, small paths a foot or so, just about dangling it though, thing is as noshed says your size and agility will matter more than anything else. Amount of space you need to work the beds and get about this is.
