If they're the small fruit flies - it's very common and just part of the process  ;)

It's still not a problem for the compost - you may not like them, but that's a different matter!  :nowink:

Compost is full of ants and flies etc. It shows it's a living breathing entitity. If there was no life in, it would be useless.  The insect life, even mice, help to break down the material

Just leave the lid off and go away for five or ten minutes and they will have cleared off

I have to be careful about leaving the lid off, else the local Robin and blackbird are straight in and eating all the worms!!!
Think my compost bin has decided to be a wormery of its own accord, bit slower, but seems to make a 'nice bit of stuff'
Very often quite lost- would be more lost if I could work out where I was!- But always find my way home.....

I will try leaving the lid off for a bit and see if that moves them on.

It will. Ten minutes should be long enough to clear them and then you can go back to it. You replace the lid when you've done whatever it is  :)

You'll find you get more flies if you put lots of fruit in so you could cover that up with a layer of something else

You'll get plenty of wildlife in there such as worms, ants, spiders  :)
