hi all i am looking for some advice ,my chicks are 3 wks old now and am amazed at how big they have got.The weather has turned here and is rather nippy ,when should i start weaning them off heat??? they are welsummers 2 are 3 days older than the other so the yougest hasnt got its neck feathers yet.The plan was to raise the heat then start with putting them out side just during the day until their ready to go out full time .At what age should i start this?we have done well so far dont want to put them out too early and harm them,but if they get much bigger will have to move them to a bigger box!!!

Hi lisa, I've only just seen this post, sorry, been out most of the day!  Our 4 week old chicks have been off heat during the day for nearly a week, but still have heat at night, but they are still in their brooder shed.  Next week I'll try leaving the heat off at night, but with an ordinary red bulb on for a bit, but as it is getting a bit chillier now, they won't go outside until late next week when they move over to the big house

thanks grannie annie! thought i wasnt going to get an answer mine are 4 wks next friday so will start turning the heat off during the day then and go from there
