How careful we must be with "general" gardening advice.
I was in Suffolk at the weekend and left for home (Cornwall) at about 8 p.m. The temp was minus 3 C.
I arrived in St Just at 3.15 a.m. and the temp was + 11 C.
No wonder my Autumn planted asparagus is about 3" tall in December !
Sometimes it is better to keep your mouth shut and be suspected of knowing nothing than opening it and proving it.

This is a main reason why we ask people to give us a rough location in their profile. :)
